After this course you will be reading to start practicing gear placements, building more technical anchors for top-roping or multi-pitch climbing. Once practices and comfortable with gear placements, we will introduce the technique to take these skills to lead outdoor traditionally protected routes.

This course is designed for rock climber who is looking to start leading and following traditionally protected routes. Basic experience with climbing techniques and sport lead strategies are recommended.

Due to the COVID - 19 pandemic, we have adjusted our delivery of Rock and Mountain courses to reduce the chance of gear and individuals' physical contact. As well as limiting any groups of individuals outside of the pre-establish circles.We are excited to offer all the content covered in our normal courses in a blending online/offline format.Step 1: Online course - All normal content for the course is delivered online through presentations and videos. Step 2: Schedule a time to chat or video chat with your guide—a 20-minute session.Step 3: Schedule an outdoor session with your guide. This will be a 1:1 ratio to minimize exposure. Households or those confident about their partner, this may be adjusted to 2:1. A 4-hour session for crevasse rescue or an 8-hour session for Glacier Travel. Or combine both for 1.5 days in the field.
Although our Glacier Travel and Crevasse Rescue course is an introductory course, basic scrambling or mountaineering experience is required. Participants must also be able to hike uphill for approximately 3 hours to access glacier terrain.
Previous Scrambling or Mountaineering Experience
Understanding of Basic Climbing Knots
Moderate Fitness (hike uphill for 3 hours)
Comfortable in Rough and Undulating Terrain
Please come prepared to spend the whole days outside in all types of weather. It can be anything from cold in the morning as you will be climbing in the shade to very hot in the sun!
